Many time recorders use top feed timecards that have a matrix of IN/OUT columns across the time card with day/date spaces down the time card. The time cards come in a variety of widths and styles for 7 day, 14 day, Semi-monthly and monthly pay period cycles. Many time clocks of this style have adjustable card width settings, while others are a fixed width. All clocks of this type automatically cycle down the card for the proper day/date position, while the movement among the IN/OUT columns is either manual (employee selects column) or automatic (the clock is programmed to a particular column at a given time of day). Many older mechanical clocks are set for a particular pay period cycle and cannot be changed. Many newer electronic time recorders can be programmed for a particular card style/pay period. Time cards also come in different line pitches which refers to the height of the individual time print cell. Attention must also be paid to the bottom space of the time card. The bottom space is the distance from the bottom of the time card to the bottom of the lowest print row. This bottom space is generally adjustable or programmable as the case may be. Adjustments and/or programming the time recorder should done by a qualified technician.
